Citizenship

Citizenship

Citizenship is an important theme within our school. This means we help our pupils develop into socially engaged, independent and motivated individuals.

Independent and motivated

Every student at Werenfridus is given the confidence and the space to become independent, with lifelong learning taking pride of place. Giving a student confidence means you are given the space to make your own choices and take responsibility for your own learning process.

The basis is that you keep to the agreements and achieve the set learning objectives by participating actively. Mistakes are allowed in this process. By reflecting on these, you become more conscious of your actions, allowing you to learn from your mistakes. Naturally, you will be guided in this by teachers and your mentor.

We think it's important that you feel you belong. That you are good as you are: unique and special. We believe that this is how you become the best version of yourself and are thus well-prepared for the next step in your life.

Socially engaged

As an open Catholic school community, we offer education based on the conviction that every student is allowed to be here and is welcome at Werenfridus. Here, we can be ourselves and we know each other. At Werenfridus, we reflect on our behaviour, both online and offline, and we have respect for the opinion and identity of others.

We care for the people and the world around us. By interacting in this way, we collectively ensure a safe atmosphere and mutual trust, and pupils become socially aware.

What also helps with social engagement at school is that we've organised our building like a village. The assembly hall, for example, is our village square, and each subject group has its own learning house. This makes it easy to find your way around and feel at home at school quickly.

Worldly wisdom

Our pupils are curious about the world around them, both locally and internationally. We make you aware of the opportunities and possibilities that exist in the world. We bring the world into the school and we encourage you to develop into a critical global citizen with an open mind and respect for the norms and values within different cultures and religions. In this way, we challenge you not to think in boxes and to become worldly wise.

Besides the various trips that are organised, Werenfridus is one of the 45 Unesco schools in the Netherlands.

If you’d like to meet peers in another country, you can sign up for a voluntary trip abroad. Furthermore, there are various excursions and activities in the lessons that focus on (global) citizenship.

Werenfridus is one of the three locations of the Tabor College.
