Art Learning House

Art on Werenfridus

Welcome to the Art Study Centre!

Art Learning Centre is the purple learning centre and here you will find all creative subjects: drama, music, visual media and fine arts. This is the part of the school where theatre lovers, actors, musicians, filmmakers and artists gather to create the most wonderful things together!

In Art Study House you will not only get creative yourself, but we also regularly visit museums, theatre productions and cities.

Subjects

In the lower school, pupils are doing acting during drama lessons. While doing this, they learn to present themselves better and gain more self-confidence. In the 2nd year, music and dance are added to this.

In addition, all pupils take Art and Design from year one to year three inclusive. In Art and Design, you learn to work with various materials, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional.

In the upper school, Art & Design and drama can be chosen as examination subjects—either with or without the subject General Art, which offers a valuable, broad orientation in art and cultural history.

We also call drama in the upper school our ‘mini acting training’. Here, pupils get to work with various acting techniques. They learn to improvise, as well as to work with existing theatre texts. They perform in various shows for audiences in our own theatre.

In addition, drama is a great addition for pupils looking for more self-confidence, pupils who find the subject a nice change from the many academic subjects, and of course for pupils who want to make acting or directing their profession.

Theatre production

Also, a large theatre production in which all pupils are allowed to participate takes place every two years. Every alternate year, a music and dance talent show is organised.

In the first year of secondary school, pupils take V-media, a subject in which skills such as communication, presentation, collaboration, organisation, analysis and reflection are taught with the help of and for the benefit of new media. These are skills that will come in handy across all subjects in later years. Pupils learn the importance of imagery and the possibilities available with a camera.

Athenaeum pupils in year four take the subject Cultural and Artistic Education (CKV) or Culture in bilingual education. This is an exam subject that is completed as early as year four and in which various art disciplines are covered. A compulsory part of the subject is experiencing Cultural Activities; this can be a visit to the theatre, doing a workshop or attending a lecture. Furthermore, assignments are carried out that contribute to increasing knowledge about professional art.

Thanks to Marene de Boer and Tirza Boon for the photos of the Christmas show ‘So this is Christmas’.

Cultural talents

Not only elite student athletes receive extra guidance to combine sport and school at the highest level. That guidance is also available for our cultural talents!

For example, if you act professionally or make music, you may be eligible for our culture coaching. You will then be assigned your own coach who will help you to adapt your schedule and reschedule homework or tests if necessary for performances, gigs or tours. Would you like to know more about this? Then contact coordinator Henk Jan Blom via hj.blom@tabor.nl.

In this photo you can see student Lynn Spil as Sylph in the musical ‘Snow White: Back to the Core’.

On stage

Every year, The Music Night is organised. An evening full of music and performances by students and teachers. All students are allowed to sign up for this evening and show off their skills.

Once every two years we organise The Night at the Park, an evening where pupils perform and a jury judges all the performances. The Night at the Park alternates with a biennial major theatre production in which pupils from all year groups may participate. Furthermore, every year around Christmas a small theatre production is created by upper-school drama pupils.

Activities

Cross-curricular projects, visits to museums, cities and performances. Art and culture are of great importance.

Werenfridus is one of the three locations of the Tabor College.
