Inclusive education at Werenfridus
The ambitions regarding inclusive education are a derived and practical interpretation of the goals in the support plan of the West-Friesland Partnership. In addition, points have been presented by Minister Slob that provide guidance for inclusive education at Werenfridus.
Our ambition is to provide tailored support for pupils with additional support needs. We are keen to guide them effectively and expertly towards an appropriate qualification or suitable pathway. We achieve this by encouraging self-confidence and independence. To this end, we deploy professionals both within and outside the school. We encourage the professional practice of staff members and invest in the mentor as a coach. Teachers are familiar with action plans and actively implement them during lessons.
Tailored support ensures as few young people as possible end up at home (long-term). And every pupil has a prospect of suitable (further) education or appropriate pathways. In tailored pathways, pupils have the ‘right to be heard, the right to speak and the right of access’. There is contact between the mentor and the parent(s)/carer(s) at least twice a year. Pupils play an explicit role in these consultations. Mentors take advantage of their professional autonomy within their role as coach, ensuring that discussions are tailored and suit the needs of everyone at the table.
There are also external support staff attached to the school, such as the truancy officer, school doctor, youth nurse, and youth and family worker. They play an active role in preventing unpermitted absence and supporting pupils.
Our school support plan let us list all the information clearly.
Tailored support
Werenfridus is a school that challenges you. You are given the opportunity to develop according to your own aptitude. Appropriate guidance goes hand in hand with this. Much attention and time are devoted to the support you need to perform optimally and to have a good time.
The mentor and your teachers are the first people involved in providing that appropriate guidance. If there are any learning, behavioural, or socio-emotional problems, additional care and support are available.
West-Friesland Secondary Education Partnership
Every student deserves support and attention. As part of inclusive education, Werenfridus strives for an educational setting in which teachers are able to offer a broad baseline of support to our students. Our policy is aimed at further professionalising and strengthening the teacher and the team in the fields of education, pedagogy, didactics and managing student behaviour. This is to ensure that an appropriate educational arrangement can be offered to every student.
In close consultation with parents and any external agencies, an effort is made to provide the necessary support within the school. This means that we have included additional facilities in our support structure to be able to offer extra support as well. Pupils can then make temporary use of these. Should the support needs of the pupil be greater than the basic or extra support that we can offer, then within the West-Friesland Secondary Education Partnership appropriate extra support can be provided for the pupil.
